Celebrating Jean’s 85th Birthday: A Heart-Warming Day Filled With Joy, Family and Friendship

On Sunday 14th September, our wonderful resident Jean celebrated a very special milestone — her 85th birthday — surrounded by family, friends, and dedicated care staff. The celebration took place at Swinley Labour Club in Wigan, a venue filled with love, music, and memories that will be cherished for years to come.

A Birthday Long Awaited

Jean's family organised the celebration after she was unable to mark her 80th birthday due to Covid-19 restrictions. With Jean’s health having declined recently, including multiple hospital visits following a stroke, there was a period where it was uncertain whether the event could go ahead. But in true Jean spirit, she was determined to enjoy her special day — and we were equally determined to make it happen.

Teamwork and Dedication From Our Care Staff

Making the day possible required teamwork, compassion, and careful planning from our staff. Joanne and Michelle, despite being on their days off, kindly volunteered their time to assist Jean and two fellow residents, Ethel and Doreen, so they could all attend the celebration together.

Transport can be challenging due to limited mobility, but thanks to a wheelchair-accessible taxi service making multiple trips, everyone arrived at the venue safely. Our care staff worked hard to help the ladies look and feel their very best for this special occasion — and they shone.

A Joyful Celebration Filled With Music, Memories and Laughter

The party was a huge success. Jean spent the entire day with a radiant smile, reuniting with old friends, enjoying her favourite songs on karaoke, and blowing out her birthday candles. One of the highlights of the afternoon was a heartfelt “This Is Your Life” tribute lovingly put together by her daughter, Maria — a touching journey through Jean’s remarkable life.

This was the first time in many years that Jean had all her friends and family together in one room, with some travelling from across the UK and even abroad. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and emotion as everyone came together to celebrate a truly special woman.

When Jean returned home, she happily shared how fantastic her day had been and thanked everyone involved for making it possible.
