Creating a Family-Centred Christmas in Our Care Home

Every year, our team works hard to make the festive season meaningful for our residents and their families. Christmas lunch has always been one of the most cherished moments of the day — a time for laughter, good food, and shared memories.

But in 2024, we wanted to do something even more special.

We opened our doors not only to immediate families, but also to extended relatives and loved ones who may otherwise have spent Christmas Day alone. Our goal was to bring everyone together around the same table, creating a warm, welcoming space where no one felt left out.

On Christmas Day, the dining room at Ambleside Bank came to life. Tables were beautifully set with festive decorations, Christmas crackers, and sparkling place settings. The smell of roast turkey drifted through the home, and the sound of laughter and conversation filled the air.

Residents held hands with their loved ones, raised a glass in celebration, and shared stories that brought back treasured memories. For some families, it was the first time in years they had been able to enjoy Christmas Day side by side — a moment that meant everything.
