At Ambleside Bank, we believe that maintaining meaningful connections and supporting residents to enjoy important life events is essential to their wellbeing. On Saturday 23rd August 2025, our team had the privilege of helping Ethel attend a 30th birthday party for the grandson of a former resident—someone who had been very dear to her.

Honouring a Special Friendship
The invitation meant a great deal to Ethel. She had shared a strong bond with the resident who once lived here, and his passing had been deeply felt. Attending this milestone celebration was an opportunity for Ethel to honour that friendship and stay connected to the people who mattered to her.
Supporting Ethel Every Step of the Way
Although excited, Ethel was initially worried about how she would manage the journey, as she hasn’t been very steady on her feet recently. Our staff offered reassurance from the outset, assuring her that we would do everything possible to make the outing safe, comfortable, and enjoyable.
One of the biggest challenges was finding a wheelchair-accessible taxi, but our team and management worked tirelessly to secure suitable transport. When we were finally able to confirm an accessible taxi, Ethel’s relief and happiness were clear—she was thrilled that she would be able to attend after all.

Safe, Supported, and Enjoying the Celebration
Knowing that Ethel was still anxious about her health and mobility during the event, both the manager and deputy manager accompanied her. Ethel expressed how safe and reassured she felt having them by her side throughout the evening.
From helping her get ready, to organising the transport, to giving up personal time to ensure she could enjoy a meaningful evening, the entire team was proud to make this special outing possible.

A Heartfelt Thank You
Ethel was incredibly grateful to everyone involved—those who arranged the taxi, the staff who helped her prepare, and the management who escorted her personally. The experience meant the world to her, and her joy reminded us why person-centred care and going the extra mile are at the heart of everything we do.
