Chef – Lytham Court Nursing Home


Location: Lytham Court Nursing Home

Hours: 34 hours per week

Shift Pattern: 4 days per week, 8:00am–5:00pm

Pay: £14.20 per hour

Contract: Full-time, Permanent


About the Role


Lytham Court Nursing Home is looking for a Chef to join our friendly and dedicated catering team.


As our Chef, you will play an important role in the day-to-day lives of our residents, preparing nutritious, varied and appetising meals that meet their individual preferences, dietary requirements and nutritional needs.


We are looking for someone who takes pride in their cooking, enjoys working as part of a team and understands the importance of creating enjoyable and meaningful mealtimes within a care home environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and cook a varied range of nutritious and appealing meals in line with the home’s menu.

  • Take residents’ preferences, requests and special dietary requirements into consideration when preparing meals.

  • Ensure all food is prepared, cooked and served safely and hygienically.

  • Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen.

  • Follow HACCP, Food Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH and Environmental Health requirements.

  • Complete and maintain kitchen cleaning schedules to the required standard.

  • Monitor food stocks and ensure supplies are ordered from approved suppliers.

  • Receive and store deliveries appropriately and maintain effective stock rotation.

  • Monitor food quality and freshness while minimising waste.

  • Ensure kitchen equipment is safe and in good working order and report any faults promptly.

  • Work closely with the wider care team to ensure residents’ nutritional needs are met.

  • Listen and respond positively to feedback from residents and relatives regarding the catering service.

  • Contribute to a friendly, supportive and welcoming environment within the home.

  • Attend relevant meetings, training, supervision and appraisal.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding residents and staff.

  • Promote the safeguarding and wellbeing of residents at all times.

  • Maintain all mandatory training requirements.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties identified by the Registered Manager.


About You


We are looking for a Chef who is:

  • Passionate about providing high-quality, nutritious food.

  • Experienced in catering for larger numbers, ideally within a care home or similar setting.

  • Friendly, approachable and enthusiastic.

  • A reliable and punctual team player.

  • Well organised and able to prioritise workloads.

  • Confident communicating with residents, relatives and colleagues.

  • Understanding of the importance of choice, dignity and individual dietary requirements.

  • Committed to maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous catering experience for approximately 25 or more covers.

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.

  • Understanding of HACCP, COSHH and food safety requirements.

  • Good literacy, numeracy and budgeting skills.

  • Experience with menu planning and food costing.

  • Good organisational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
