Organised by: Wigan Council

On 9 December 2025, Wigan Council hosted a heart-warming festive event, Jingle and Mingle, bringing together residents and staff from care homes across the Wigan borough. Held at Stubshaw Cross Club, the afternoon celebration captured the true spirit of Christmas while promoting community connection, social inclusion, and wellbeing during the winter months.

A Celebration of Community and Festive Wellbeing

The Jingle and Mingle event was designed to encourage social interaction and reduce isolation among care home residents. By welcoming residents, staff, and representatives from multiple care homes across Wigan, the event created a shared space for celebration, laughter, and meaningful connection beyond residents’ everyday environments.

Residents Tommy and Jean proudly attended the event, accompanied by Kay, Home Manager, and Denise, Deputy Manager. Everyone embraced the festive dress code, arriving in colourful Christmas outfits and sparkly attire that instantly set a joyful and welcoming tone.

Live Entertainment and Christmas Cheer

A highlight of the afternoon was the live entertainment provided by Joanne, Activity Coordinator, who played a key role in creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere. Through engaging performances and much-loved Christmas songs, Joanne encouraged residents and staff to sing along, clap, and celebrate together.

The music brought smiles, laughter, and shared moments of joy, helping residents feel relaxed, uplifted, and fully included. Events like this demonstrate the powerful role that music and group activities play in supporting emotional wellbeing within care settings.

Strengthening Connections Across Care Homes in Wigan

The event was well attended by care homes from across the Wigan borough, offering residents a valuable opportunity to socialise with new faces and strengthen bonds within the wider care community. This inclusive approach reflects Wigan Council’s ongoing commitment to promoting wellbeing, reducing social isolation, and fostering a strong sense of togetherness among older adults.

By bringing care homes together, Jingle and Mingle showcased how partnership working can enhance residents’ quality of life and create memorable shared experiences.

Recognising Outstanding Community Engagement

During the afternoon, Ambleside Bank was proudly presented with an award for Community Engagement, recognising its positive contribution and ongoing involvement within the local community. This award highlighted the importance of collaboration between care providers, local organisations, and the council in delivering meaningful, community-focused care.

The event delivered a range of positive outcomes, including:

  • Increased social interaction and enjoyment for residents

  • Stronger relationships between staff across care homes in Wigan

  • Promotion of inclusion, celebration, and festive wellbeing

A Festive Success to Remember
