Location: Lytham area – working across Century Healthcare’s Lytham homes

Salary: £13.67 per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Typical hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm

Contract: Permanent

Reporting to: Head of Maintenance

Driving Licence: Full clean driving licence required


About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, practical and enthusiastic Maintenance Operative to join our Estates and Maintenance team, working primarily across our care homes in the Lytham area.


Reporting to our Head of Maintenance, you will play an important role in helping us maintain safe, comfortable and welcoming environments for our residents, staff and visitors.


This is a varied, hands-on role covering general maintenance, repairs, routine safety checks and compliance-related tasks across our homes.


Previous maintenance experience is not essential as full training and support will be provided. This could be an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career who is keen to develop practical skills and gain experience across a wide range of maintenance tasks.


We would equally welcome applications from candidates with previous experience in maintenance, estates, facilities, DIY or a similar role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general repairs and maintenance tasks within your level of competence.

  • Complete routine maintenance, safety and compliance checks and maintain accurate records.

  • Identify and report maintenance, health and safety or compliance issues.

  • Assist with basic carpentry, plumbing, decorating, DIY and other general maintenance tasks.

  • Support with the upkeep of gardens and external areas.

  • Respond to maintenance requests and ensure issues are dealt with promptly and appropriately.

  • Liaise with external contractors when required, ensuring appropriate health and safety procedures are followed.

  • Help ensure our homes are maintained to a safe, clean and comfortable standard.

  • Work closely with the Head of Maintenance and individual home teams.

  • Follow all company policies, procedures and relevant health and safety requirements.

  • Respect the privacy, dignity, choice and individual needs of our residents at all times.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records.

  • Participate in relevant training, supervision and appraisal.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by your line manager.


About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Practical, reliable and willing to learn.

  • Friendly, approachable and able to communicate well with colleagues.

  • Comfortable working independently and managing their own workload.

  • Organised and able to keep accurate records.

  • Practical and confident using basic tools and equipment, or keen to learn.

  • Interested in developing their maintenance and estates skills.

  • Able to work respectfully and professionally within a care home environment.

  • Committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety.

  • Flexible and willing to occasionally work outside normal hours when required.


Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Full clean driving licence.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to learn and undertake training.


Desirable but not essential:

  • Previous maintenance, estates, facilities or handyman experience.

  • Experience of DIY, gardening, decorating, carpentry or basic plumbing.

  • Previous experience working in a care home or similar environment.


Full training will be provided, so don't worry if you don't have previous professional maintenance experience.


Working Hours

The role is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, generally working 8:00am to 4:00pm.

There may occasionally be a requirement to work evenings or weekends, depending on operational requirements and maintenance priorities.
